Inspect My Chef puts the official record in your pocket and answers the one question that matters before you sit down: how did this kitchen score?
Each authority’s own rating, exactly as published. No conversions. Badge colours are ours; the rating never is.

When does Inspect My Chef launch?
The public beta opens this fall (2026) — Android on Google Play and iPhone through Apple's TestFlight. The full release on both stores follows the beta; we're targeting the fourth quarter of 2026. The store links will appear on this page as soon as each beta opens.
Which places are covered?
Six cities in two countries: Charlotte, Raleigh and Gastonia in North Carolina, Birmingham in Alabama, and London and Brighton & Hove in the United Kingdom. Each U.S. city covers its whole county, not just the city limits. We keep the list short on purpose, so every place meets three tests: every restaurant is included, ratings are re-checked at least every two days, and map pins land in the right place.
Where does the inspection data come from?
Directly from the public records of the agencies that do the inspecting: the Mecklenburg, Wake and Gaston County health departments in North Carolina, the Jefferson County Department of Health in Alabama, and the U.K. Food Standards Agency. Every listing credits its source, and our Sources page lists each dataset and its licence.
Do you convert ratings into your own score?
No. The app shows exactly what the inspecting authority published — North Carolina's sanitation score and A/B/C grade card, Alabama's 0–100 score with the state's own band, and the U.K.'s 0–5 Food Hygiene Rating in the Food Standards Agency's own words — next to the inspection date. Badge colours are ours; the rating never is. Our Methodology page explains each system.
What is the score tracker?
Every restaurant page keeps the record of its inspections — back to 2012 in Raleigh and 2013 in Charlotte and Gastonia — with a trend chart and the share of inspections that improved, declined or held steady. When a place in your Favorites, Diary or Trips gets a new score, the app tells you. That matching happens on your phone; what you have saved is never uploaded.
Does the app track my location?
No. Your location is used on your phone to sort restaurants near you and centre the map, and it is never saved to our servers. When you tap Directions, only the restaurant's location is handed to the maps app you choose — nothing about you. There is no account and no sign-up.
Will it be free?
During the beta, yes — every feature is unlocked and there is nothing to buy. After the beta a free version stays free, and Premium is planned at $1.99/month or $11.99/year. We'll publish exactly what Premium includes before the beta ends.
Are you a restaurant? Can you display your score?
That's the plan. The Restaurant Verified Badge is not open yet — it comes after the consumer launch. Restaurants holding their health authority's top rating will be able to claim their listing in two planned tiers: Verified at $19.99/month (or $199/year) and Verified Pro at $49.99/month (or $499/year). We'll announce it on this page when it opens.
